My artistic training was in the craft of hand Bookbinding at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, MA and my graduate study was in Folklore at University College Cork, Ireland. I use the skills and knowledge from both of these pursuits in my work. My artwork tells traditional and modern stories about the relationship between humans and animals. These folktales are expressed in mixed media using wood, metal, paper, bookboard, watercolor, and clay. The art pieces are shaped like the animal in the tale and sometimes have components, like a book, that are interactive. Most cultures have stories about how animals shaped our world. I want to bring back the messages folktales tell about the importance of the animal world to our survival.
